Who We Are
The Foundation for the Promotion of Democracy (FPD) is an independent, nonprofit, nongovernmental organization committed to the promotion of freedom and the furtherance of the principles of democracy, secularism, human rights and active civil society in emerging democracies around the world. Strengthening democratic political and civic culture abroad equips disenfranchised populations with skills vital to personally effecting internal and external peace, security and prosperity.
To that end, the Foundation assists individuals and organizations supportive of democratic institutions and processes in expanding political pluralism through the conduct of public opinion research in closed, unstable and transitional societies; the production of television and radio programming for satellite broadcast into closed societies; the adaptation and dissemination of materials to assist civic groups organizing non-violent resistance; and the conduct of issue-based campaign and communications training with a special emphasis on media relations and production and constituent relations.
